How I’m looking after my coloured hair

As you know, my hair colour is quite vibrant. It is currently pink at the top and fades in to yellow. It’s really important that I look after my hair in order to maintain the colour, but also the condition. I have to have my hair bleached to achieve these bright colours, which is obviously quite damaging. I pay a lot to have my hair bleached and dyed every 10 weeks or so, so I don’t want to mess it up. Here is how I go about looking after coloured hair.

Looking after coloured hair with Olaplex and Schwarzkopf

Looking after coloured hair

My hair is quite short at the moment. At my last hair appointment I had all of the straggly split ends cut off and it now falls just below my shoulders. It feels really healthy and is much easier to style at this length. It doesn’t take long to dry and needs minimal heat. I have been trying to switch my products for ones that benefit my hair to avoid having more cut off.

Shampoo and conditioner

I have been searching for my ideal shampoo for a while and still haven’t found it. I am looking for something that is good for coloured hair, ideally something that is free from SLS. I have been looking at getting myself a shampoo from L’Oreal Professionnel now I have done some research. However, I have found a great conditioner which is the Schwarzkopf Colour Freeze. It’s designed especially for coloured hair and is SLS free.

Looking after coloured hair with Olaplex

One product that I have loved for a while is the Olaplex Step 3. I use this every two weeks. It’s meant to be used before you shampoo your hair, so I wet it, towel dry it slightly and then apply the Olaplex. I then leave it on for around 15 minutes before rinsing and washing my hair as normal. This leaves my hair feeling really soft and seems to repair some of the split ends.

Heat styling

I always blow dry my hair after I’ve washed it. If I don’t then my fringe goes wild. I have a cow-lick which means that my fringe won’t sit properly unless I blow dry it into the right style. Having shorter hair means that it dries a lot quicker than it used to, which is great. I tend to leave my hair to air dry for a while before I get the hair dryer onto it. To protect my hair from any heat damage, I always apply the Schwarzkopf got2b Heat Activated Straightening Spray. This helps to keep the hair smooth and straight but also protects from the heat.

it’s also a great idea to use a smart blow dryer which allows you to turn the heat down to protect your hair. If you’re looking for a smart blow dryer then mdlondon is a great option.

I’ve also been using scrunchies instead of hair bobbles, which I find really helps my hair and stops it from snapping. How do you look after your hair?

    Your hair is beautiful!

I love olaplex, I have it treated at the hairdressers every other colour and it’s so good.

I’d not thought of buying my own though x

I use silk hair scrunchies and find it really helps my hair split less. I need to try using Olaplex as I have a bottle but have still never given it a go x

Your hair is AMAZING!!!! Such gorgeous colours, but yes, bleaching your hair damages it so much. I loved being blonde but it never grew… my hair is darker these days and all the way down my back. I cannot recommend sitting with conditioner on for a couple of hours enough! Sim x

I’ve had an Olaplex treatment in the salon before but I’ve never tried doing it at home – I bet it works out cheaper.

Love how bright your hair is, I have frizzy and curly hair and need to blow dry my hair as well. Will be checking out Schwarzkopf got2b Heat Activated Straightening Spray as I don’t use a straightening spray at the moment

I colour my hair although not such vibrant colours. It’s good to hear about products others have tried to help keep coloured hair looking good and of course their opinions.

Brilliant tips on how to look after coloured hair. Think it is so important to use heat protective treatment on your hair if you heat style it.
