UK cat cafés

Since I visited my first cat cafe in October 2013, I have become a bit obsessed with them. At that time, we didn’t have any UK cat cafés. Now though, there are around fifteen with more popping up fairly often. As of now, I have been to 25 cat cafes across 9 different European countries. I have heard a lot of mixed feelings about cat cafes, mainly from people who have never visited one. So, I have decided to document all of the cat cafés that I have been to so far and link them all here, so they are easy to find. This will include both UK cat cafés and ones further afield.

I haven’t written posts about all of the cafes I have visited yet, but will be slowly working my way through them and will link the posts when they are done. I also have some videos from my cat café visits up on my YouTube channel which will be linked below.

What is a cat café?

The idea for cat cafés first originated in Taiwan. They are normal cafés which have resident cats. These are great places for cat lovers to unwind, drink some coffee and hang out with some furry friends. If you are a cat lover and are not able to have one of your own, then you might want to visit a cat café. Some people believe in “la ronron therapie” or purring therapy in English. This is the idea that having cats around is beneficial to a human’s mental health. So therefore, sitting in a cat café is a great way to improve your mental health.

A lot of people have expressed concerns about the welfare of cats in the cat cafés, however I have yet to visit one that doesn’t care for their cats. The cats will usually have a ‘safe place’ that they can go to whenever they want, away from the humans and the rest of the café. There are always strict rules in place which stipulate that you are not allowed to mess with the cats while they are asleep. You are also not allowed to pick them up, feed them any of your human food or let them drink your drinks.

I’d say the best cat cafe so far that i’ve been to is manchester! I loved it :D. It’s like a one way airlock room you have to go through so the cats are kept safe. You can choose anywhere you’d like to sit as opposed to being allocated a table. Oh and no kids under 10 allowed which is fab – i think sometimes kids can make it a bit chaotic. Been to Birmingham too it was ok but it felt a bit disorganised maybe that’s cos it just opened so i will have to go back again. Deffo wanna go to the one in Stratford upon Avon after reading your post 🙂
