A weekend in Bristol

Bristol is one of those cities that I’ve been meaning to explore for ages, so since my friend Lily was doing her PGCE down there I finally had an excuse to visit. I travelled down by National Express coach which was a bargain at just £5 each way from Digbeth coach station!

Our friend Hera joined us on Saturday morning and we spent the day doing what we do best – shopping! We spent a good hour or so in Primark and then went on to Starbucks for a bit of a caffeine boost before we hit Cabot Circus where we spent the next few hours trying on clothes, spending money and working up an appetite for the evening. I managed to pick up a pair of the gingham Lyla tube pants from Dorothy Perkins which I adore.

When I said I was going to Bristol, everyone told me I had to go to Za Za Bazaar, a themed all you can eat restaurant. They sell every cuisine that you can think of and we ate so much we had to skip the cocktails we’d planned for afterwards as we just couldn’t move!

On the Sunday we headed over to Clifton to see the famous suspension bridge and we even went down the steep narrow staircase cut out of the rock and into the Clifton Caves which gave us a great view of the bridge. Luckily, the sun was shining so it was a great opportunity for some photos.

Lily and I then went back into the town centre and paid a visit to the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery I love a good museum, especially when it has an Egyptian gallery! We spent a good hour or so wandering round there before we got peckish and decided to find somewhere for lunch.

We ended up in a little place called Boston Tea Party which I’d heard of as we have one here in Birmingham and had always wanted to try. I had an iced coffee and a chicken, chilli and coriander toasted sandwich (amazing!) while we relaxed after all of the walking we’d done over the weekend – I didn’t realise Bristol was so hilly!

I loved my weekend in Bristol and I wish I’d had longer to expolore. Lily has moved out of the city now but I’m sure I’ll find another excuse to pop down there again soon.

I really want to visit Bristol but it’s so expensive from where I live!

Sounds like a fun weekend! I’ve never been to Bristol before, I must go soon. Good luck to your friend who is doing her PGCE, I did it 5 years ago and I still remember quite vividly how tough it was. X
