Recently, I decided to stay in Bristol for a night on my way back from Cardiff. It was a bit of a last minute decision, so I wasn’t expecting there to be many hotel options left. I was surprised to find that there were a lot of options available and it wasn’t just hotels. I found a place called Towed Town Camping which caught my eye, it was the same price as a hotel but looked very interesting.

Towed Town Camping

Located just a ten minute walk or four minute drive away from Bristol Temple Meads train station, Towed Town Camping is the ideal accommodation if you are looking for something a bit different. Described as an ‘indoor camp ground ‘, it’s essentially a converted warehouse full of refurbished caravans and some really funky decor. It’s an ideal place to stay if you fancy a spot of glamping but don’t want to risk the unpredictable British weather.

From the outside, it just looks like an old warehouse. After booking, you’re given instructions on where to find the accommodation and a key code for the front door. You’ll also be given a code to a key safe for your specific caravan, so that you can let yourself in. I thought that this was great as I didn’t have to worry about what time I checked in, although check in was any time after 2pm.

The facilities at Towed Town Camping

Inside Towed Town Camping, there are six refurbished caravans, each with their own separate bathroom and then a communal area. In the communal area, there’s a table tennis, board games, books, sofas and food and drink which are available to purchase from the ‘honesty bar’. There’s free on-site wifi and each caravan comes equipped with a television. The decor has such a fun vibe and I think this would be the ideal place for a group to stay! The rules state that you must not use the communal area after 10pm out of courtesy for the other guests.

My experience at Towed Town Camping

I arrived at around 9pm after a busy day exploring Bristol with friends. It was during the heatwave, so I was exhausted, hot and ready to crash out. I walked over from Bristol Temple Meads train station which was a short and pleasant walk. I felt safe walking through this part of the city which is ideal when you’re a lone female. Following the instructions that I had been sent after making the booking, I was able to easily find the warehouse.

After letting myself in through the front door, I found my caravan which was called Asha. I found the key safe was a bit hard to work out, so I had to google it; once I’d got my key out, I was straight in my caravan. The Asha caravan is the only one without a seating area inside, however it does have a king size bed. As it was just me visiting, I wasn’t worried about having a separate seating area.

I loved the tropical green decor of the caravan and the amount of storage space that it had. If I had been staying for more than a night, I would have unpacked my backpack. There was also free tea and coffee inside the caravan and a fridge which I used to store my water.

There were two towels in the caravan, so I was able to have a quick shower when I arrived. I was very impressed with the shower in the little bathroom. It was also quite spacious, so I was able to have a shower, dry myself and get dressed.

I was pleased to see that there was a small fan in the caravan, which I kept on all night. It was almost 30 degrees the night I stayed, so this was a great help!

The verdict

I absolutely loved this indoor camping concept and would definitely stay at Towed Town Camping again. This would be a great place to stay with friends. It would be better to stay when it’s not so warm as there’s no air con but I managed a decent night’s sleep with the help of the fan. I was disappointed that I couldn’t find anything with the wifi password on; luckily I have unlimited data on my phone and there was good signal.
