How to enjoy 24 hours in Barcelona

Parc Guell - 24 hours in Barcelona

For anyone planning a Spanish adventure for their next holiday, considering a 24 hour stay in Barcelona is always a great idea. With more than 27 million tourists visiting the iconic European city every year, there’s no denying how popular Barcelona is as a holiday destination.

When visiting any city for a short period of time, it’s always hard to know how you can fit everything you want to see and do in 24 hours in Barcelona. Luckily, I have been able to narrow down some of the must-do activities for the next time you’re in Barcelona. Here are four things that should be considered for your next Ibearian itinerary.

Sample some local fare

When taking a trip to a foreign city, trying some of the local food and delicacies is an absolute must. Barcelona is no exception. There are so many local dishes to try. So, make sure to take a browse through the streets of the city to sample some of the iconic Spanish flavours. From the paellas to the padrón peppers, the tasty traditional treats will provide the fuel you need for a day’s exploring around Barcelona.

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants and cafes, so why not consider taking a food tour for a few hours? Not only is this perfect for the foodies out there, but it’s also a great way to see the best of what Barcelona has to offer.

Immerse yourself in local culture

As well as eating some delicious food, when spending 24 hours in Barcelona it is also important to take in as much culture as possible. This historic European city is rich in identity and tradition, with incredible architecture. Barcelona also has a huge selection of museums that you shouldn’t miss out on during your short visit. Take a trip to the Catalan History Museum, here you can get clued up on the city’s past. Or admire the inspirational art exhibition at Museu Picasso, home to nearly 4,000 pieces.

Visit La Sagrada Familia

No trip to Barcelona is complete without a visit to the iconic La Sagrada Familia. Located centrally in the city, this gothic fixture is one of the most recognisable sights in the world. Make sure to book your tickets if you want to tour inside to avoid disappointment. It gets pretty busy, especially during the height of tourist season. Or, simply admire the view from the outside. Here, you can capture the customary holiday snap that no trip to Barcelona is complete without.

Make the most of the nightlife

If you’re spending the evening in Barcelona, you won’t be disappointed when it comes to the city’s bustling nightlife. Throughout the symmetrical streets, you will find countless modern and busy bars that will prove a great night out. Indulge in some after-dinner cocktails and dance the night away. What a perfect way to end a great 24 hours in Barcelona.
