The top 5 rides at Portaventura World

Are you wondering what the best rides are at Portaventura World? When I visited Portaventura World in Spain in April 2017, I had the best time. I love theme parks and I’m not scared to go on any rides. So as you can imagine, I went on quite a few in the two days we were there. We stayed onsite and had as well as our park passes, we also had fast passes thanks to 365 Tickets. We went on everything from the smallest kiddy rides, to Europe’s tallest and fastest ride. Here are my five favourites.

My 5 Favourite Rides at Portaventura World

Red Force

This ride is basically the whole reason why we went over to Spain. You can read more about the opening of Ferrari Land in one of my earlier posts. Red Force measures in at 112 metres tall and accelerates from 0 to 180 km/h in just five seconds. From start to finish, the whole ride only lasts around fifteen seconds. We loved it so much that as soon as we got off, we went straight back into the queue! I would have gone on for a third time if the park hadn’t been due to close. If you’re a thrill seeker and love fast rides, this one is for you.

Shambhala

This used to be Europe’s tallest and fastest ride but has now been overtaken by Red Force. This is one of the first rides that we went on when we entered the park as we knew that the queues were likely to get really long. Shambhala has a Himalayan theme and is located in the China section of Portaventura World. Although the ride doesn’t take you upside down, there are five camelback hills. The whole experience lasts around three minutes, so it’s worth queuing for.

Magic Fish

This ride can be found in the Sesame Street area of Portaventura World (Sesamo Aventura). It is obviously a children’s ride, but sometimes you just need something different. The premise is simple. You stand in a fish as you get rotated around the centre in a pool of water. If you want to move about, you can turn the steering wheel. It sounds ridiculously simple, which it is but it’s so much fun! We went on a couple of times and really enjoyed it, despite it being designed for children. You can see more of the ride in my Portaventura vlog.

Stampida

This is a wooden rollercoaster with two trains that ‘race’ each other. This is another ride that we went on twice. We went once on each train. Although both sides are slightly different, I don’t think that one is better than the other. Stampida doesn’t have any loops but there are a few steep drops and it goes pretty fast. You don’t get thrown around as much as you do on the other wooden coaster in the park, El Diablo.  I definitely recommend riding this twice as we did.

Maranello Grand Race

This is another children’s ride and is inside Ferrari Land so you’ll need to pay extra to visit this park. You basically get to drive your own Ferrari around a 570m track. There’s no skill involved, you just need to be able to put your foot down on the peddle. If you get too close to the car in front, then you’ll automatically be stopped to ensure there are no crashes. It probably sounds really boring but it was so fun trying to race against each other. I got so competitive!

Out of all of the rides at Portaventura World, the one ride that I didn’t enjoy and will probably never choose to go on again was Furious Baco. Although I like anything that’s fast, this ride pushed my head forward as soon as it started. It was going way too fast for me to be able to put it back against the head rest. This meant that my head was being thrown about so much. I swear I could feel my brain rattling inside my head and I ended up with a horrible headache when I came off it.

Have you been to Portaventura World? What was your favourite ride?

As much as I like theme park I can never be brave enough to sit in one of these loopy rides. Stampida sound perfect for me. I can handle sudden drops 🙂

I went to this park years ago and it was great then, yet it seems like it has got even better. I would love to go on the Shambhala ride, as that is something that looks like the kind of rides that are my favourites! I like the idea of the wooden rollercoaster too! x
