Although I live so close to Birmingham, the last train home is at 23:15 which means that when I go to a gig I often have to miss the last couple of songs to ensure I make it back to New Street Station on time. Once I get back it can cost me up to £15 for a taxi back to my house, so I was really pleased to hear that Birmingham was getting its own Easy Hotel with rooms starting from just £23.99. When I found out, I decided to book myself a room for when I was going to see Band of Horses at the O2 Institute – it was only going to cost me an extra £9 and it meant that I could stay for the full set and then be in bed with a Starbucks within 20 minutes of leaving the venue.
Birmingham’s Easy Hotel is located on John Bright Street above Turtle Bay which is conveniently just around the corner from the city’s main railway station, New Street. The hotel only has three floors however the rooms are quite small, so they’ve managed to fit quite a lot in and there are a few different room types which are:
- Standard room with window (1 x double bed, 9–11 sq. metres)
- Standard room no window (1 x double bed, 9–11 sq. metres)
- Twin room with window (2 x single beds, 10–12 sq. metres)
- Wheelchair accessible room with window (1 x double bed, 13 sq. metres)
- Family room with window (1 x double bed & 1 x single beds, 14 sq. metres)
I chose the cheapest room which was a standard room with no window and cost me a bargain £23.99. I’ve stayed in the Easy Hotel Victoria a number of times so I knew what to expect and wasn’t at all concerned about the lack of window. The only difference it really makes is that the room is completely dark if you have the lights out and you can’t get any fresh air. Unfortunately, I was a bit of an idiot and messed with the thermostat when I checked in, so when I came back after the gig the heating was on full blast (I thought I had put air con on) and the room was really hot. This is my fault though and nothing to do with the hotel room at all.
As I previously mentioned, I have stayed at the Easy Hotel Victoria a few times a few years ago and I was pleased to see that the rooms in Birmingham are slightly bigger. You are able to walk around the bed in the Birmingham hotel and the bathroom is also a lot bigger. I really liked the design on the walls too as it showcased some of the most famous and important buildings in Birmingham.
As this is a budget hotel, you do have to pay for any extras that you woudl usually expect to find in other hotels, this includes the wifi which is priced at £5 for 24 hours and access to the TV which is another £5. As I stayed within the first week of the hotel opening, the wifi was actually free but you would usually have to pay for it. This isn’t a problem, as adding both of those extras on only takes the room up to £34.99 which is still a lot cheaper than staying somewhere else within the city centre. I had to be out of the hotel really early in the morning to get to the Caravan and Camping Show, so I didn’t feel the need to pay for access to the TV.
I would really recommend the Easy Hotel Birmingham if you’re looking for somewhere basic but clean and reasonably priced in the city centre. It’s ideal for people who are looking for somewhere to crash after a night out or for anyone travelling on business. The bed was really comfortable and I struggled to get myself out of it in the morning!

£34.99 is so cheap and it is great that it has most of the amenities that you would need. I wonder if they have an Easy hotel in London? x
I have stayed in Easy Hotels before back when they were only £19.99 or less if your booked earlier and still liked them. Glad to hear they have opened one in Birmingham.
Easy Hotel is perfect for people who really, just want a bed for ease and in your situation, it’s well worth it! Even just used as a base, it’s a great place to discover some new cities!
Easy Hotels are amazing value for money. I often pick budget hotels when I’m staying in cities as all you really want is somewhere to sleep for the night isn’t it.

I love the simplicity of the room. It’s interesting that you have to pay extra for TV. I guess there’s a good reason for that. Other than that, I think it’s great value for the money.
I used the Easy Hotel in Luton a couple of times for when I had early flights. You do get what you pay for though. I found the shower to be extremely small.

I wish we had an Easy Hotel near us as it would save a taxi or train fare, plus it means my mummy could get a lay-in after a heavy night. It looks nice inside too and is so cheap!
