I remember when I was in school and everyone was obsessed with the matte look. They’d spend lunch breaks powdering their faces to eradicate any sort of shine. I would wear the mattest, most drying foundation that the high street had to offer and I’d apply it so thick you wouldn’t be able to see any of my natural skin through it. This was long before highlighter became a trend – if you’d asked me to apply highlighter at 15, I would have thought you were joking! It wasn’t until a few years later when I realised just how great it is to have glowing skin.

Toner

To start off, you need to make sure you have the right base. The most important part of any routine is your skincare. If you have a great skincare routine, then your makeup will look a lot better and you will also feel so much better. At night, I’ve been using a skin toner with glycolic acid in it which has hugely improved my skin. I have found that my skin is a lot smoother and I have very few blemishes now.

I recently picked up the Revolution Skincare Glycolic Acid Essence which is the same formula but in a spray bottle. I have been using this in the mornings, just a couple of spritzes when I wake up before I moisturise. It’s a much easier way to apply toner and means that I don’t skip that part of my routine. My skin has honestly never looked so good, it’s currently texture free and radiant. I think that toner is such an important step in your skincare routine and one that shouldn’t be skipped.

Setting spray

You can use the best makeup in the world, but there’s one thing that you need to use to ensure it stays looking perfect all day. That is a setting spray. I always use a setting spray after I have finished applying my makeup, especially if I’ve used powder products. The spray will help to set everything in place and will take away any cakeiness from products you’ve used. One that I have been trying out recently is from Makeup Obsession an affordable makeup brand. I have found that I only need a couple of sprays of this particular setting spray to give the glowing look that I am after.
