Travel: My top 5 things to do in Paris

My Top 5

Recently, I’ve been seeing so many people on Snapchat, Instagram and other forms of social media having a grand old time in Paris and it’s made me really sad. Paris is one of my favourite cities and I’ve been every year for the past three years (twice last year) and so far this year I don’t have any plans to go. I know a lot of people are planning to go over the summer, so I thought I would share my top five things to do whilst in the French capital.

Visit Sacre Coeur and Montmartre

This is my very favourite spot in Paris, I absolutely adore Sacre Coeur, the architecture is just stunning and if you go up the steps right up to the basilica, you get a fantastic view of the city. There’s also a black and white cat that I have met there on three separate occasions – I’d say we were good pals now! There’s a cafe right opposite Sacre Coeur called Le Ronsard and I love sitting there with a crepe and a drink just people watching and admiring the view.

Have a look around Musee d’Orsay

I’ve only been to this museum once, on my trip with Amy in 2013 but I just fell in love with the place. My favourite artist is Vincent Van Gogh and they have a whole room dedicated to his work; one of the paintings that is on display in there is Starry Night Over The Rhone which is one of my favourites of his and it was amazing to see it in the flesh, it’s just breathtaking. I enjoyed this museum far more than the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam!

Stroll down Champs Elysees

This is probably one of the most famous streets in Paris – it’s basically like the French equivalent of Oxford Street however it has the Arc de Triomphe at the top and weirdly, a lot of car showrooms! If you want to treat yourself to anything designer while you’re in Paris, you can probably find it in one of the shops on Champs Elysees!

Take a walk along the Seine

It doesn’t matter what time of year you go to Paris, the Seine always looks so beautiful. My favourite thing to do is walk from Champs Elysees all the way to Notre Dame along the river – this way you will go past the two love lock bridges (Pont des Arts and Pont de l’Archeveche) although I believe that they may have removed all of the padlocks due to the bridges collapsing.

Spend some time at the cat cafe

This is a bit of an odd one and isn’t something that most people would enjoy, however I am a bit of a crazy cat lady so cat cafes are right up my street. This was the first cat cafe that I ever visited (I’ve now been to four) and I’ve been on two separate occasions. There’s such a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and the cats are all really pleasant. The last time I went, we had two cats just sat on the sofa with us which was really sweet.

I hope this post has given you a few ideas if you’re planning a trip to Paris.
