When you book a holiday, it’s obviously really exciting but there can also be a lot of things that can make it stressful too. Nobody wants to be stressing out just before they go away, so I’ve put together some important things that you need to think about before you go on your trip which can help to alleviate stress. I’ve found that these have really helped me, especially before a big trip like when I went to Florida last October, I had so much to sort out beforehand and it was definitely a good idea to sort things out in advance.

  1. Make sure you have all of your documents packed
A week before you go, make sure you have everything you need and you know where it is before you start to pack. Put any important documents and your passports in your hand luggage a couple of days before you go, so you’re not worrying about them just before you leave.
  2. Think about the journey
How far are you going? Will you have a few hours to kill on the plane? Make sure you always pack something to do or read like a good book. There’s nothing worse than being bored on a plane, especially if there’s no on-flight entertainment. Make sure you take a travel cushion if you think you will need it too, these really help when you’re travelling through the night. Have a look for a travel guide to your destination and you can read it on the way!
  3. Sort out your currency in advance
Don’t leave changing your money over until the last minute, it’s best to keep an eye on the exchange rate and buy when it’s good. Definitely don’t change your money at the airport as you won’t get a good deal at all. Have a look at a currency website such as xe.com to check the going rate.
  4. Think about your pets
If you have pets at home, make sure you plan in advance what is going to happen to them. Whether it’s someone coming to your house to look after them or them going to stay in a pet hotel. This will really save you worrying about your fur babies while you’re away.
  5. Work out how you’re getting to the airport
If you’re flying, you might have a flight at a really unsociable hour which makes getting to the airport by public transport quite difficult. The best option is usually to drive and there are some good ways to get cheap airport parking nowadays, so you don’t have to worry about it costing you a fortune.
  6. Get good travel insurance
If you’re willing to travel anywhere without insurance then you’re a fool. Insurance doesn’t just cover injuries and medical expenses but will also cover missed flights or delays. It’s really important that you take out travel insurance before you go anywhere and don’t just get the cheapest one.

Hopefully if you follow these tips, you will have a stress-free build up to your holiday!
