When you and your friends think of going on holiday, what (or where) initially springs to mind? It’s likely to be somewhere far away and exotic, complete with picturesque scenery and sandy beaches. But what if I told you that you can get all of that right here on your doorstep? Yep, in the UK! If you’re planning a mates holiday this year, here are 6 reasons you should consider the UK.
Hear me out on this one! Yeah, it can seem like the weather is an ongoing joke in Britain. However, we do get some sunny days as well. In fact, August is one of the best months of the year for (nearly) constant sunshine. Even if it does rain, it kind of adds to the character and charm of the UK. If you’re considering a winter break, then no one does cosy nights by the fire quite like the Brits. Forget Winter Sun, we want Winter Snow!
Believe it or not, the UK has some of the best beaches in the world. No, seriously. Our coastline has won some serious awards for its sheer beauty. Cornwall has the best example of stunning beaches – check out Watergate Bay and Porthcurno if you don’t believe me. You also have the breathtaking Sandwood Bay in Scotland, Saunton Sands in Devon, and Compton Bay on the Isle of Wight.
Forget those dingy all-inclusive resorts abroad, the UK tops the charts for accommodation every time. Going with a big group of you? There are sites like Group Accommodation where you can get a pretty gorgeous self-catering property to rent for the duration of your holidays. The English countryside is also littered with quaint B&Bs and posh manor houses, to suit virtually any taste or budget.
You can save an absolute fortune if you and your mates decide to holiday in the UK. Self-catering is a great option for those who want to save some money because you don’t have to splash out in restaurants or expensive bars. You can all eat (and drink) in the comfort of your own holiday home. Insurance is cheaper, travel costs are cheaper, currency exchange fees are non-existent. Seriously, you will save a fortune!
No waiting around in airports for hours or being bored out of your brain on a flight. You can drive or get a train to most places in the UK. Even if you do fly, you’ll barely have time to watch an episode of whatever TV rerun the plane has playing, before you’ve landed again. Spending less time and energy on travelling means you’ll get more time to actually enjoy your holiday.
The Day Trips
The UK is home to some of the coolest attractions on the planet. Okay, so we don’t have Disneyland, but most towns and cities are jam-packed with museums, galleries, zoos, cider farms (hello Cornwall), theme parks, and a whole host of other attractions. We have castles and country walks, Stonehenge and the Eden Project, Arthur’s Seat and Alton Towers. It doesn’t matter where you go in the UK, you’re bound to find some epic activities to keep you busy during the day.
If this hasn’t convinced you to holiday in the UK this year, I don’t know what will! Can’t persuade your mates? Print this off and stick it somewhere they’ll read it (and see the picture of that beach). You’ll be organising a group holiday on your doorstep in no time!
