Big thanks to both Rose and Elizabeth for letting me know about this offer.
In September’s issue of House Beautiful
(which is out right now), there’s a voucher for a free Alvine Orter
duvet set including four pillow cases from IKEA, worth £11.99. The voucher is valid from August 1st to August 28th so you’ve still got plenty of time to head to IKEA and pick one up. The magazine costs £3.40 and I picked mine up from my local M&S but I’ve also seen it in WHSmith and I’m sure it is stocked elsewhere.
I’ve never bought House Beautiful before but I picked it up for the voucher as I’d been after this particular duvet cover for a while anyway. It’s a great magazine and I’m looking forward to having a good flick through. It also gives me an excuse to go to Southampton now and have a good nosey round IKEA!
Let me know if you decide to take advantage of this brilliant offer too!
I bought some new make up last time I went to Birmingham. I finally bought my first MAC lipstick and I am in LOVE. I’ve only ever had MAC lipglosses before and I bought them off eBay so they don’t really count. I felt really cool walking around Birmingham swinging my little yellow Selfridges bag. I obviously need to get out more. I had a look at the lipsticks with Eloise
at the Brum Blogger Meet and picked the one I wanted but there was a massive queue, as you’d expect on a Saturday so I already knew that I wanted Chatterbox. I was also looking for a new foundation so I spoke to one of the sales assistants who recommended Studio Sculpt in NC15. He tested it on me, but I wasn’t sure so he gave me a sample to try for a few days. I didn’t like it at all, it felt greasy. I like it when foundation actually sinks into your skin and doesn’t just sit on top. So, after purchasing Chatterbox I headed to Superdrug to test out some of the foundations that I’d been recommended on Twitter
. I ended up buying Bourjois Healthy Mix in shade 51 which, at £9.99 was a lot cheaper than the MAC one!
Chatterbox is a brilliantly pigmented, opaque pink and is an Amplified Creme so it is really creamy and won’t dry your lips out. If you do have dry lips, I’d recommend wearing a lip balm under this as my lups have been quite dry recently and when I forgot to use a balm it was really apparent. Apart from that though, it’s amazing. It has great staying power and I hardly have to top it up during the day! Next time I’m looking for a lipstick, I will definitely be looking at Amplified Cremes. The colour is brilliant and is bold without being too in-your-face. It’s great for everyday wear.
I was recommended Bourjois Healthy Mix because I was looking for a medium coverage foundation. I was a bit dubious at first and thought it would probably be better to spend a bit more money and perhaps try MAC or another high end brand. I’m glad I purchased this though. It gives fantastic coverage and covers up all my blemishes while also giving a lovely dewy finish. It blends really well so you don’t get those tell-tale foundation lines. It also has brilliant staying power. I put it on in the morning and in the evening it still looks perfect, even in all the heat we’ve been having recently. I will definitely be repurchasing this when I run out. It’s usually on a 3 for 2 offer as well.

You may also have noticed that I’m wearing THAT leopard print collar dress. I bought it back in February but it was one of the things that got stolen from my house. I managed to find it in the sale in New Look in Tamworth last week though!
Started off the week with a curry and a catch up with a few friends – Popped to IKEA but all I bought was a bin – I had to say goodbye to my girls before I headed back to Winchester – A neighbour’s apple tree which looks delicious! I couldn’t take a photo out of the window as there was a topless man in the garden and I’d look like a perv – I clearly have way too much spare time which I use wisely by painting crap on my nails – Took a walk up St Giles Hill after work which gives a panoramic view of the city. It’s breathtaking – The River Itchen which I passed on my way back from the hill into town – Two new owls to add to my collection. The one on the left is a pencil sharpener that my nan bought me from Devon. The one on the right houses some chocolate orange lipbalm which my lovely housemate bought for me.
Last week was very up and down as it was my nan’s funeral on Monday and then I had to travel back to Winchester late Wednesday night even though I wanted to stay at home longer. I hate being grown up and having a job and responsibilities. I came back to a bathroom infested with spiders (I counted 19 before I wanted to throw up out of fear) which Henry the Hoover gobbled up for me. I spent four days on my own with just the spiders for company (more kept appearing and they were getting bigger and bigger) until one of my housemates came back and her dad kindly threw a big hairy beast of a spider outside. I had three friends from Primark round last night for a chinese and a catch up which was lovely and I’m going to spend the next three days working on my FYP and getting a bit of exercise as I’m not at work again until Thursday.
