If you know me, then you’ll know that I love my cat. Bertie was found abandoned at three weeks old and as soon as I laid eyes on him, I fell in love. He has lived with us since he was six weeks old. Since I was at home with him a lot while he was a kitten, we’ve developed an incredible bond. He’s the most loving, affectionate cat and loves nothing more than snuggling up to me and having kisses. When I moved to Winchester to do my Masters degree, I missed him so much. So, when Whiskas asked me if I wanted to get involved in a campaign and have a date night with my cat, of course I said yes!

Tuesday 4th September was Bertie’s second birthday. We don’t know the exact date he was born, but as he was around three weeks old when he was found, we were able to make a good guess. I decided that his birthday was the perfect excuse to have a date night. We were sent a few packets of the Whiskas cat casseroles, I bought a bottle of Pawsecco (which he turned his nose up at) and Bert popped on his bow tie. He went for the turkey casserole from Whiskas, while I made myself one of my favourite dishes, chicken katsu curry.
Date night with my cat
As it was his birthday, I let him eat at the table with me. Luckily, Bert isn’t the kind of cat that begs to eat human food – if you offer him a piece of steak he won’t take it! So there was no problem with him sticking to his turkey casserole and leaving my chicken katsu curry alone. As you can see, he got a bit confused with his bowl being higher up than he was. He decided to stick his paws in there and check it was actually cat food before he got stuck in.
I would definitely choose a date night in with my cat over a night out. As I’m approaching thirty, the idea of going out drinking gets less and less appealing. I’m sure I’m not alone in choosing cats over clubs! Bertie has been there for me when I’ve been messed around by men. He’s let me hug him and cry into his fur, he’s listened to my complaining.. He’s the purrfect date and he doesn’t tell me off for talking too much and doesn’t judge me for wearing too much make up.
After dinner we moved into the living room. Date night with a cat is way better than a date night with a man. Bert cuddled up next to me on the sofa while I caught up with Eastenders and Bodyguard. He caught up with his daily grooming routine and then settled down for a nap. I can confidently say that Bertie had a brilliant second birthday and he now has a taste for the Whiskas cat casseroles, we’re going to have to stock up on some more!
