Lifestyle: Getting fit for the summer

Now that summer is just around the corner (well, 3 or 4 months away), I’m feeling a bit more motivated to lose a bit of weight and tone up. The only problem is, I’m so busy with my full time job that I just don’t have time to sign up to a gym. I think that it would just be a waste of money if I did join a gym and paid monthly for a service which I would barely use.

I’ve been thinking of alternative types of exercise to do which don’t cost much money or are free. The best thing I’ve discovered so far is my Fitbit which I wear on my wrist everyday and counts the number of steps that I’ve done each day and also tracks my sleeping pattern. The great thing about the Fitbit is that it connects to your phone and you can keep track of everything using the app. You can also add friends on the app and then you are able to enter challenges with them. I set myself a daily step goal of 10,000 steps and don’t usually hit that when I’m at work as I sit at a desk all day, however I usually manage to go above and beyond my step goal at the weekend.

Another great form of exercise that I would like to do more of is swimming. It’s a fantastic way to use the whole body and work all of the muscles in your arms and legs and get yourself toned. One thing that I have always wanted to try is rollerskating – running isn’t really my thing and I think I would really enjoy putting on some Proline skates and doing a couple of lapsĀ around my local park or finding a local roller derby group to join. I’ve heard a lot of positive things about roller derby groups.
