Lifestyle: Adding the finishing touches to a room

As I mentioned in a post last week, we’ve been adding the final touches to my home office which used to be my brother’s bedroom. It’s nearly finished, I just need to pick up a couple of things including some prints for the walls and we could do with a small set of drawers so I can keep all of my paperwork and notebooks together without making a mess as my dad also uses the room too. The main thing we need to get is new lighting, at the moment there’s four spotlights on the ceiling which are fine, but it would be better to get something with just one bulb that can offer a softer type of light. I’ve been looking at the lighting that’s available on lampcommerce and I think it would be nice to have both a single hanging light from the ceiling in the middle of the room and a small desk lamp like one of the ones by Artemide

The next room I want to get sorted is my bedroom. Although I’m planning on going back to university in September and will only be here for another eight months or so, I do spend a lot of time in my bedroom so it’s important that it is somewhere that I feel comfortable in – especially as I have to sleep in there!

I have a bit of an obsession with bedding and I just love buying new duvet sets; my favourite places to get them from are Primark and George at Asda. I have quite a few sets now that need throwing away as I’ve had them since I was at university (and I left five years ago!) and they’re looking a bit worse for wear, so I see that as the perfect excuse to buy some more. I’ve recently received this gorgeous faux mohair throw from Rooi which looks great at the end of my bed but also keeps me warm when I’m sat on the sofa reading, or when I’m sat at my desk in the office. As it’s grey, it goes with all of my bedding so I don’t have to worry about it clashing. As well as colourful bedding and cosy throws, I also like to have a lot of cushions in my bedroom to make it a really comfortable place to be. I have a lot of different cushions from many different places but my favourites are all cat related! I really love this cat plate cushion from George, I have the matching duvet cover and a similar cushion already but I’m still lusting after this one.

Another thing I’m obsessed with is candles and I have to have a scented candle on the go at all times. I really like the ones you can get in Primark for a few quid and I’ve found some cheap ones in Tesco too but my absolute favourites have to be Yankee Candles and Woodwick. I bought my dad this WoodWick candle in Campfire Marshmallow for Christmas and I adore the scent, it reminds me of one that I got from Bath & Body Works when I was in the states, so I definitely want to pick up a big one for my bedroom.

LOVE woodwick candles, the crackling noise they make is so relaxing 🙂

It’s so important to make your uni room feel homely – mines filled with lots of little photo frames and bits and bobs. I really want to get some new bedding soon – I’ve been loving yellow colours atm!xx
