It’s true that decorating a room can give it a whole new lease of life but the secret to really personalising a space is in the finishing touches. My office used to be my brother’s bedroom and had bright blue walls and a union jack print guitar shelf along with posters of Hayley Williams from Paramore and more typical teenage boy paraphernalia. Since we painted the walls a nice, neutral magnolia colour, I’ve been collecting various bits and pieces to make it feel more suited to me.
Obviously, my desk is the main feature of the room and this is where I do the majority of my work so I want to keep it quite tidy and free of too much clutter. There’s an iMac on there but I usually work from my MacBook Pro which I also place on the desk. I like this desk pad which I picked up in Primark for just £2, it helps me keep my working week organised and serves as a reminder to what I have to do. I’ve found that I can go a bit overboard when it comes to buying office stationery, so I’ve tried to stick to things I need rather than things that I just want because they look pretty. I keep my pens in what is meant to be an owl shaped candle holder which I got from B&M a couple of years ago. I also like to keep myself hydrated while I’m working, so I keep this Kate Spade tumbler that I got from Rooi on my desk which I refill with water throughout the day and it reminds me to drink.
I haven’t decided on any artwork for the walls yet, but for now I’ve got this photo stand from RedCandy which comes with some mini pegs so you can clip your photos to the string. I think that this is so cute and I love how easy it is to switch out the photos. At the moment, I have a couple of polaroid prints on there along with some cards that came with the frame but I’ve also ordered some more prints from LALALAB which I’ll be adding when they arrive. I’ve got it balancing on my printer at the moment but I’m hoping to get some more oak furniture for my office and it would look great on a little coffee table.
Another way I’ve added a bit of my personality into the room is by displaying my enamel pin badge collection. I’ve got them all (well, the ones that aren’t on my leather jacket) pushed into a cork notice board and I have them sitting on a chest of drawers next to my desk. I love enamel pins and I’m always buying new ones, I’d like to design my own one day and I know that there’s a couple of places that will make your own enamel pins or name badges.
I want to eventually choose some nice curtains and as I mentioned before, a bit more furniture but so far I’m really happy with how my office has turned out. What do you think?
