As I lived in Kings Heath for a while last year, I always used to go through Moseley on the bus when I was going to and from the city centre and I’ve visited a few of the pubs and restaurants in the area, however I’d never actually been to The Fighting Cocks. I’ve known people who have been in there for a drink but I didn’t realise that they actually have a pretty extensive food menu, so when I was asked if I would like to review a three course meal, I was really curious.
I invited fellow blogger, Heidi to come along with me and we popped over to Moseley at around 1pm on a Saturday afternoon. We were expecting the place to be quite busy as it was the weekend, however there were only two other tables occupied in the dining area. There was a small table reserved for us towards the back of the pub near to an open fire which gave the place a really cosy feel. View Post
Although I live relatively close to Birmingham and am there all the time, if I go for a night out then I can’t get home unless I leave before the last train which is at 23:15, which is pretty annoying, especially as I used to be just a 10 minute Uber ride away from the city centre! Luckily, Birmingham has a great selection of hotels in and around the city centre so there’s plenty of choice when I need to pick one to stay in.
Back in December, Rachel came down to Birmingham to see me and we went to the Clothes Show Live and then wanted to spend the evening wandering around the Frankfurt Christmas Market which meant that the best option was to stay in a hotel. We were lucky enough to get a room at one of Birmingham’s newest hotels based at the Mailbox, AC Hotel which is a part of the Marriott group. View Post
Just before Halloween, I was invited along to the #DebsGlamoween event at Debenhams in Birmingham. I was really excited to receive the invitation, as I never usually do anything for Halloween so I thought that it was a good way to get into the spirit of the day. On arrival, we were handed a glass of prosecco (which was topped up constantly throughout the night) and were told about what the evening entailed. We were going to be visiting three different makeup counters in the store and learning about their Halloween makeover tips.
Our first stop was Make Up For Ever which is one of the newest concessions in Debenhams. I’ve been there for a makeover before and I have a few favourites from the brand, however I didn’t actually know that they do a Halloween range! We got to test the special Halloween items and I was very impressed with their fake blood especially. We were then shown how to do the above half skull look using just their makeup and were given a few samples of their most popular products.
Our next stop was Illamasqua where one of the managers, Chetna talked us through their Halloween range. I loved the red eyeshadow in Daemon which I was lucky enough to receive in my goody bag. How amazing is Chetna’s makeup? This was created using just Illamasqua products! I really recommend you follow Chetna on Instagram to see more of her work.
I love Illamasqua for their bold and ‘out there’ colours. I own a couple of their purple lipsticks in ‘Kontrol’ and ‘ESP’ and I’ve not managed to find anything similar from another brand, they have incredible pigmentation and last for hours on my lips.
Our final stop of the night was at Urban Decay where we were shown how to do a quick and easy Halloween makeup look called “I’m a mouse, duh” which of course is from Mean Girls. We got to have a play around with the new Moondust palette and were gifted a couple of the new Vice lipsticks in ‘Heroine’ and ‘Junkie’ in our goody bags.
As well as the super generous goodie bag that I received on the night including a £50 voucher, Debenhams were kind enough to send me some Kat Von D products to have a play around with too. I attended the #BloggersHalloweenParty and the above is the look I came up with using the Illamasqua ‘Daemon’ eyeshadow, Kat Von D’s Tattoo Eyeliner and one of the Urban Decay Vice lipsticks in ‘Junkie’. I was really pleased with how this look came out, although I probably shouldn’t have attempted the cobweb whilst I was on the train!
