Recently I’ve really been loving the highlighted, glowy look when it comes to my makeup and I’ve found a few products that really work to give me the best fresh ‘lit from within’ look which still looks quite natural and healthy and also covers any blemishes and imperfections and makes me look wide awake. Most of these products are new to me, but I’ve found that I’ve been reaching for them on a daily basis (or whenever I wear makeup) and they’re now staples in my makeup bag.
Stila One Step Correct*, available here
This is one of the newest products in my makeup bag which I received when I went to a Stila event a couple of weeks ago and it’s something I’ve heard a lot about but had never tried. This primer also contains colour correctors, brighteners and an anti-aging serum. I always apply this before any of my other makeup to help to even out my skin tone and to ensure that the rest of my makeup stays in place all day.
Colourpop Super Shock Eyeshadow in Birthday Boy, similar available here
I’m absolutely in love with the formula of the Colourpop Super Shock eyeshadows and I’ve managed to get myself quite a collection so far. My favourite in particular is unfortunately a limited edition, so once I’ve used this up I won’t be able to get hold of it again which I’m gutted about. It’s a gorgeous sheer taupe packed with gold and purple glitters which looks great all over the lid.
L’Oreal True Match highlighter in Icy Glow, available here
L’Oreal Infallible Total Cover foundation, available here
I picked the highlighter up in Boots recently when I was buying the foundation as they were on a two for £12 deal; the foundation is priced at £9.99 so it made sense to spend an extra couple of quid and get a liquid highlighter too. As you can tell from the name, the foundation is high coverage although not quite as high as it is made out to be. L’Oreal claim that this can be used to cover tattoos, so the first thing I did when I bought it was try it out over mine and after three layers, it was still completely visible! Luckily, it is pretty good at covering up blemishes on the face and evening out my skin tone. I like to mix the foundation with a bit of the highlighter to give it a more dewy finish and to give it more of a medium coverage. I’ve found that this combination is great and it still lasts all day.
theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer highlighter*, available here
This highlighter is another product that I had heard so much about, it seems like every other blogger and YouTuber has it and loves it. I originally bought theBalm’s Cindy-Lou Manizer but I found that it was a bit too pink toned for me and when I saw Rach wearing Mary-Lou, I knew I had to have it! Luckily the folks at Notino (which used to be BeautySpin) kindly sent it over to me and I’ve been in love with it ever since. With this highlighter, a little certainly goes a long way and it lasts so well. I like to apply it to the tops of my cheekbones, down my nose and on my cupids bow and I’ve found that it gives me a brilliant glow which lasts all day, especially if I set it with a setting spray.
theBalm Mr Write Now eyeliner in Brian*, available here
This is another product which I received from Notino; this creamy beige eyeliner is perfect for lining the bottom water line and helps to make my eyes appear brighter and much more awake which is especially helpful if I haven’t had much sleep. I find that this really helps to finish off the whole look.
