Barcelona is a magical place full of culture, antiquity and radiance. From its intriguing history to its unique architecture, Barcelona is a city that steals the hearts of its visitors. Catering to all types of tourist, there is something for everyone and all ages. During a recent visit to this wonderful city, I discovered it was home to a number of fantastic wine bars. As a great lover of wine, (especially Spanish wines) I took it upon myself to scope out as many of Barcelona’s fun and vibrant wine bars as possible. Here are the top picks that are worth a visit during your next visit to Barca!
Monvínic is the mecca of wine bars in Barcelona. Whether you are after a hearty, gourmet meal or wish to catch up with friends over one of 3000 bottles available, this trendy must visit spot has it all. Unwind amidst the serene ambience that is comprised of sleek and contemporary décor, dimmed lighting and unique detail such as a library beautifully placed against one of the walls. The dining room holds several long, grand tables ideal for get-togethers or celebrations. The wine cellar itself is impressive, like a piece of art. Don’t be overwhelmed by the large wine list, searching through the selection is made easy with tablets where you can browse by country, year, grape and pour size.
Experience true Spanish culture at Vila Viniteca. This unique wine hub is made up of two separate spaces; one being an ample wine shop, the other a deli come bar. The shop has shelves stacked to the brim with thousands of bottles of wine to choose from. The second space of Vila Viniteca is where you will find the deli and a small bar area. Delicious smelling hams hang from the ceiling and a vast selection of cheeses are on offer. With so much to choose from, you will be filling your bags with scrumptious souvenirs to take home. This cosy bar with authentic Spanish vibes is the perfect place to soak in the culture and discover some of the best local wines.
Lesense Bar a Vins
I chose to stay at Capri by Fraser Barcelona in Sant Martí. Their serviced apartments were just around the corner from Lesense Bar a Vins, a local wine bar that we just happened to stumble upon when exploring the area. Lensense’s trendy and cosy atmosphere will have you sitting there all night long while enjoying the tastes and smells of an eclectic collection of wines. If you’re in for something to eat, the menu is full of delicious options ranging from mouth-watering steak to flavoursome fish, salads, burgers and more.
It’s sleek floor to ceiling wood panelling and romantic lighting make this tranquil wine bar in one of Barcelona’s hippest areas the perfect spot for date night. Offering a tasty menu comprised of delicious plates ideal for sharing, you can sip on refreshing cocktails, thirst quenching beer and of course, most importantly, some of the best Catalan wine you can get your hands on.
Zona d’Ombra, inspired by Italy, embraces Italian culture with small but heartening compliments such as charcuterie on the bar for all guests to share. Its warm and welcoming atmosphere makes all visitors feel at home and a sense of nostalgia radiates throughout this small yet cosy bar where you can sip your way through Italian and Spanish wines.
